Assist War Orphans and Vulnerable Internally Displaced Children to Return to School.
Introduction
After the successful completion of the project “Education Support to War Orphans and Internally Displaced Children”, in G.S. Group 1&2 LIKOKO – Buea, in June and July 2020 where we directly supported twenty one children, sponsored by Ms. Cornelia MBENG, we wish to scale up the project, to keep supporting these children, as they move into the new school year, while at the same time, increasing the number of vulnerable children to be supported.
Our Actions are mostly carried out in the Green Zones of the conflict area, where security is high and some schools can operate.
These areas include Buea, Bamenda and their environs, in the South West and North West Regions of Cameroon.
For the past four years, this conflict has caused, the death of … persons … over displaced … children made vulnerable, over … villages razed and counting
According to OCHA Report N0. 20 …
These statistics, demonstrates the acute need to assist these vulnerable children in the few operational schools, within the conflict zones. The COVID – 19 situation has made matters worse.
In the face of these challenges and in order to protect these children, the ideal strategy to rekindle their hopes is to get them back or support those struggling in school.
Many of these children are now exposed to varied forms of abuses such as child labour, sexual abuses, rape, domestic child abuses, child soldiers, and some suffering from war traumatic disorder, after seeing their loved ones being killed or homes and villages destroyed.
Those parents or guardians who succeed to relocate, or find themselves within these Green Zones where some schools are operational, and succeed to get these children enrolled in school face a lot of challenges and in need of support.
Some of the Internally Displaced Children who are unaccompanied even face more challenges.
From the just ended project, it was realized that these children are facing problems that range from their inability to read due to several years of missing school and in need of special Remedial Catchup classes to de-block them to better reintegrate into the school system.
While in school, they face problems that include their inability to afford the fees, afford textbooks, writing material etc.
These Project will have the following Goals;
1. Provision of school fees.
2. Provision of text books and writing materials.
3. Remedial Catch-up lessons.
4. Documentation of children stories to enhance sponsorship and foster care opportunities.
