Library in a Trunk
A Library in a Trunk, with a set of core textbooks for 100 children cost 3,000,000 Fcfa ($6,000)
In the Cameroon school system, Parents are expected to buy the school textbooks for their children and with the high level of poverty many children go through school without being able to afford a textbook. According to UNESCO, there is one textbook for three children.
Make a one time investment of learning resources for a needy child and will continue to access these resources as they move up the learning ladder through exchange.
With 15,000 frs ($30) you can provide a needy child once, with a set of core textbooks, through the revolving core textbooks program, that enables the child to keep access these books as they move from one class to the next through exchange.
Let’s get learning resources into the hands of children by supporting 1000 orphans, vulnerable and internally displaced children, victims of the ongoing Anglophone conflict in Cameroon.
We subsidize the cost of a set of core textbooks by 75 percent, hoping that the beneficiary will contribute 25 percent, as a means of giving them the opportunity to appropriate and own the program. Though provision is made for 100 percent exemption under special considerations.
These core textbooks include Mathematics, English, French, Literature texts and access to the other textbooks in the Trunk
These textbooks will be delivered and preserved in a metal Trunk or Cupboard through mobilized communities of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), Orphans and Vulnerable Children (OVC) their host communities and schools.
The Textbooks are then introduced into the Revolving Core Textbook process that permit the children to exchange the books as they move from one class to the next.
Currently according to a study by LINK-UP, less than 10 percent of children can afford a textbook for the entire school year which affects the learning process very severely.
While hoping that the Government will step up, harmonized a stable textbook policy and put in place, a centralized procurement, school textbooks exchange system as is the case in most developed countries, we count your support to enable vulnerable children to have some books to learn in school and at home.
